The Credentials That
Open Florida's Best Doors

The Walker Group's client firms — Florida's top law practices and corporate legal departments — have high expectations for academic background. Understanding these expectations is part of what we bring to candidate representation.

Law School Pedigree

T14 graduates (Harvard, Yale, Columbia, NYU, Duke, Michigan, Virginia, etc.) are preferred by Florida's most competitive employers. Top regional schools — University of Florida, Florida State, Miami — are highly regarded when combined with strong class standing or Law Review credentials.

Class Rank

A strong class rank — typically top 15% or better — is the threshold we see consistently among competitive candidates at AmLaw firm lateral level. In-house roles are somewhat more flexible, weighting practical experience more heavily.

Firm Pedigree

Formative experience at a recognized AmLaw 200 or major regional firm remains the most important credential at the 5+ year level. It signals training quality, work complexity, and professional standards.

Florida Bar Status

Active Florida Bar membership or demonstrated willingness to sit for the Florida Bar is typically required for law firm placements. In-house roles occasionally accommodate waivered admission for extraordinary candidates.

Full FAQ →

Is my current employer notified when I contact you?

Never. Our first conversation is strictly confidential. We do not approach your current employer, share your identity with any third party, or make any contact on your behalf without your explicit authorization for each specific action.

Does it cost anything to work with The Walker Group as a candidate?

There is no cost to candidates. Our fees are paid exclusively by the hiring firm or company upon successful placement. Candidates receive the full benefit of our representation and market knowledge at no charge.

I'm not actively looking but I'm curious about the market. Can we still talk?

This is one of the most valuable conversations we have. A significant portion of our most successful placements begin with an exploratory call from an attorney who was not yet ready to move. Market intelligence is most useful before you need to act on it.

What makes a candidate "ready" to work with The Walker Group?

The profile we represent most effectively: T14 or strong regional law school, a strong class rank or Law Review credentials, 5+ years at an AmLaw or recognized Florida firm, and active Florida Bar membership or willingness to obtain it. If you're unsure whether you meet these criteria, let's discuss — the answer is often more nuanced than it first appears.
